SVRA Special Presentation + Meeting Residential/Neighbourhood Planning​ and the Committee of Adjustment

A friendly reminder of the Seaton Village Residents’ Association meeting and special presentation with Robert Brown –  TONIGHT!

Please join the SVRA and your neighbours for a very special evening with Robert Brown, former Chair and longtime panel member with the Committee of Adjustment

From 2007 -2015, Robert sat on panel (A) of the Committee of Adjustment for Toronto and East York. In 2015 Robert assumed the Chair for Panel A of the COA. Robert is also the former Chair of the Annex Residents’ Association and continues to work in an advisory role on local planning applications with the ARA and the Harbord Village Residents’ Association.
 
Come learn about residential planning: where to start –  the City of Toronto’s residential Planning process, applying to the COA, how to effectively communicate with neighbours about your own or your neighbour’s residential planning application, understanding the COA process, the role of your residents’ association and City Councillor in the process and more. Learn from a home renovation expert/contractor and engineer how to navigate your home reno and the COA. 
New to Residential Planning is the Toronto Local Appeals Board which is replacing the OMB for contested residential COA applications. Robert will walk us through this new process. 
 
The Seaton Village RA is  Neighbourhood “Visioning” plan: this includes residential and commercial development + local traffic and safety initiatives – please join us to learn more and be a part of the group!
Other business for this meeting will include:
  • an update on traffic and safety initiatives underway;
  • an update on the Dupont St corridor development following the May 4 meeting with developers, the City Planning Staff and Councillors Cressy and Layton + next steps with Mirvish Village
  • April 12 SVRA Meeting minutes – for approval. Attached.

SVRA Meeting Wednesday, May 17 Focus: Residential development and the Committee of Adjustment process

Please join the SVRA and special guests, including Robert Brown, former Chair of the ARA and Committee of Adjustment to learn about residential home development and the Committee of Adjustment process and the new Toronto Local Appeals Board. 

This meeting will also provide an opportunity to begin discussing our Seaton Village neighbourhood “Vision Plan”

New Vermont Square Park Compost date!

Due to the extreme weather we are experiencing, tomorrow’s Community Compost Day at Vermont Square has been postponed to Sunday, May 28th, 2017.

Bloor St Bike Lane Pilot Project Feedback Survey #2 – final day to participate

The online Bloor Street Bike Lanes – Feedback Survey #2 was launched by the City in December 2016 and will close at midnight – TONIGHT – Thursday, May 4, 2017

FYI for those concerned about local business input in the process:

150 Unique businesses submitted responses to the City’s 1st survey and extensive outreach from the City/project lead Jason Diceman continues to ensure local business participation in the study. A parallel study on the local economic impact of bike lanes on Bloor Street is being led by the Toronto Center for Active Transportation (TCAT), in partnership with University of Toronto, and sponsorship from Metcalf Foundation, Bloor Annex BIA, and Korea Town BIA. University students with an iPad will be visiting store front businesses again this spring to interview merchants directly.
MORE BUSINESS CONSULTATION IN PROGRESS

So far the TCAT/ UofT Economic Impact Survey has interviewed 248 store front merchants in the Economic Study Area on Bloor Street between Christie Street and Robert Street:

Once prior to bike lane installation in October-November 2015;
Again shortly after bike lane installation in October-November 2016; and will again this spring 2017.

City staff will continue to reach out to business over the coming weeks through the local BIAs and directly. Businesses are being encouraged to contact the City to discuss the project and impacts to their businesses.

A new business-focused City online Survey #3 will be launched this summer, to gather more feedback on the pilot bike lanes from local business operators along Bloor Street from Ossington Avenue to Bay Street. We will be asking more in-depth questions to better understand how different kinds of businesses have been affected in different ways.

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION – the SVRA asked for this and the City is delivering!            

PUBLIC DROPIN EVENT #3 – JUNE 5, 2017

A third public information event is scheduled for Monday, June 5, 4-8pm, at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre. Members of the public are invited to speak directly with the project team, to ask questions and share comments about the pilot bike lanes on Bloor Street. Information will be provided on the latest traffic analysis, online feedback survey results, and next steps for minor design modifications and overall evaluation of the project.

Local Councillors Mike Layton and Joe Cressy will be in attendance. A formal event notice will be distributed in the coming weeks.
