Early Fall Community Meetings and Events

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year to many area residents!

Fall is upon us and abuzz with lots of neighbourhood goings-on, community events and upcoming meetings. For more information, please refer to  minutes from our September 19th SVRA meeting (including Park renewal updates)

SIDEBAR: The SVRA is hoping to attach a calendar on the website publicizing the many community events throughout the neighbourhood and beyond! If you have some web savvy and are also familiar with WordPress, we would so appreciate your creative input! Please help spread the word and send us an email or let us know on Facebook: Seaton Village (Toronto)

THEY’RE BAAAAACK! Water heater scams in the neighbourhood: National Home Services is on the prowl again in our neighbourhood.

Police have been notified by area residents and are well aware of what these guys are doing.  These are the water heater salespeople who claim they work for Enbridge and they’re just swapping out old water heaters with new ones for free, and then lock you into a contract with them, and you’re stuck paying out your contract for your old heater as well as the new contract, and also the costs to have your old one hauled away.

***Please be on alert for this company, and other water heater companies coming to the door and asking to come inside to inspect your old water heater.

Bike Theft, Car Smash and Grab and Break and Enter Crimes in the neighbourhood

There are way way way too many crimes of this nature happening throughout Seaton Village with a real rise in the volume of crime being reported to the SVRA.

No matter how beat up your bike, or whether you believe your beloved will never be found, if you choose not to report damages from a smash and grab to your car with your insurance company PLEASE call any incidents of theft and vandalism to the police!!!

Laneway crimes are up, but the police are unaware.

If we want increased police presence in the neighbourhood, then the police need to have just cause to be here – hard facts given WHEN YOU CALL THE CRIME IN!!!

Please refer to our safety page for contact numbers, protocol and more information: https://seatonvillage.ca/safety/

Maple Crete: Sidewalk repair on Manning Ave

Transportation staff has informed us that repair work to sidewalks along Manning will continue for this week. Welcome repairs to sidewalks and roads are happening along Mannig from Dupont to Bloor and also along the south side of Dupont. Transportation/Works Manager Joe Machedo was contacted to discuss the lack of communication from the City including advance notice, the scope of work to be done and roads involved  which has impacted acess to the neighbourhood and area homes, as well as seriously reducing parking in the area. It was also discovered that Maple Crete was closing access to laneways and roads without the City’s knowledge.

If you are experiencing any challenges or for more information, please contact City Inspector Mohamed Abdi (416) 938.6183

October Meetings:

October 1stRedistribution of Federal Ridings to include Trinity Spadina.

The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario released the proposed federal riding redistribution for Trinity-Spadina. The proposed changes will remove the Annex and Seaton Village from the current riding boundaries. The maps can be viewed at http://www.redecoupage-federal-redistribution.ca/content.asp?section=on&dir=now/proposals&document=index&lange.

Local representatives and key stakeholders within the community, including the Seaton Village Residents’ Association, were invited to discuss these changes and view current and proposed maps at Olivia Chow’s constitiuency office on September 10th, 2012. To view the meeting brief please see Community Consultation Meeting Summary: Community Consultation Meeting Summary – September 10, 2012

While the focus was on our riding, there was also discussion about other alternatives to the present proposal, such as suggesting the creation of a new electoral district at the foot of our existing riding, tentatively to be called Toronto Waterfront.  This would extend along the harbour, encompassing the Toronto islands and the condo developments in that area.

Please refer to maps of Trinity Spadina:
